To know me is to know that cheeseburgers are possibly my favorite food (definitely in my Mt Rushmore). Salty, fatty, cheesy, saucy – PICKLE-Y (I cannot skip the pickles). I love & often crave McDonalds, but I am obsessed with having better ingredients in my body. So this is not the first burger-esque recipe you have seen here (Burger Bowl), and it won’t be the last. Absolutely delicious mini burgers that can feed a crowd and are fun and delicious to eat.
I cannot wait for you to make these Big Mac Sliders. The burger sauce is one of my favorite things I ever created for the blog and we use it CONSTANTLY. I needed another excuse to pour it on something. Connect with me! Your thoughts and comments on my Instagram are a perk of this job. Tag me in your creations @quartersoulcrisis.
I LOVE sliders: Have you tried these?
Big Mac Sliders & Not-So-Secret Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 yellow onion chopped
- 1 tbs avocado oil
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 cup romaine lettuce thinly sliced or chopped small
- 1/4 – 1/2 cup pickles chopped small
- Cheese I use whatever I have on hand, but I love Cooper Sharp, Cheddar or American
- 1 12 oz package Hawaiian Rolls
- 1-2 tsp sesame seeds
- Burger Bowl Sauce Not So Secret Sauce
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°: Slice Hawaiian Rolls carefully in half, separating tops from bottoms. Set tops aside and place the bottoms of the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment.
- Cook Ground Beef: Heat 1 tbs olive oil in skillet on high. When the oil is hot and shimmering, add chopped yellow onion and nice pinch of salt. Cook onions, stirring often, until softened and beginning to brown. Break up and add ground beef to the skillet. Add garlic powder. Cook 8-10 minutes or until the ground beef is cooked through. Add more salt if needed. Remove beef and onions from heat and set aside to assemble sliders.
- Assemble Sliders: Make sure bottoms of rolls are on baking sheet. Cover with shredded cheese or slices. This acts as a barrier so the rolls do not get soggy. Add ground beef and onion mixture evenly over the rolls. Lightly place tops of rolls on the ground beef. Lightly brush with melted butter & sprinkle sesame seeds evenly over the top. Bake 15-20 minutes until the tops are toasty and golden (I like to let them get a little dark in spots).
- Add Sauce: Let sliders sit for 2-5 minutes until you can carefully remove the tops. Add lettuce, pickles & lots of burger bowl sauce. Place tops back on. Serve immediately (or eat them cold out of the fridge like I do).
Home Cook’s Notes
- Can be reheated in the oven (or microwave in small increments)
